Asthma & Allergy Management

  • What is asthma?

Asthma is a condition that affects the airways and can make breathing more difficult. Children with asthma may experience coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, or shortness of breath.

Symptoms can vary from child to child.

  • What causes asthma symptoms?

Asthma symptoms may be triggered by viral illnesses, allergies, exercise, weather changes, smoke, dust, pet dander, and other environmental irritants. Recognizing and avoiding triggers when possible can help reduce symptoms.

  • How do you diagnose and treat asthma?

Our pediatricians diagnose asthma by reviewing your child's symptoms, medical history, and physical exam findings.

Depending on your child's age and symptoms, additional testing or evaluation with a specialist may be recommended.

Treatment is personalized and may include rescue medications, daily controller medications, and strategies to help prevent flare-ups. Your pediatrician will monitor your child's progress and adjust treatment as needed.

  • Asthma Education

We help families feel confident managing asthma at home by reviewing medications, proper inhaler and spacer technique, nebulizer use, and care of medication devices. We also discuss ways to reduce exposure to triggers.

  • Asthma Follow-Up Visits

Regular follow-up visits allow us to monitor symptoms, review medications, and adjust treatment when needed. Follow-up timing depends on your child's asthma severity and level of control, but many children are seen every 6 months when stable.

If your child has frequent coughing, wheezing, breathing concerns, or symptoms affecting daily activities, contact our office to discuss next steps.
