Newborn Care
Newborn Care Begins From The Moment Your Baby Arrives
Our pediatricians understand the challenges of taking care of a newborn. They also provide the same gentle care they’d use for treating their family.
We provide specialized newborn care starting right in the hospital or within 1-2 days after discharge, ensuring your baby receives the best attention immediately. From there, we seamlessly transition to ongoing care as part of our comprehensive services, supporting your child's health and development every step of the way.
Newborn Care FAQs
When does my newborn have their first checkup?
Your baby's first checkup is typically scheduled within a few days after leaving the hospital. This visit allows your pediatrician to assess your newborn's health, feeding, weight gain, and overall adjustment to life at home.
During the visit, we will:
- Assess your baby's weight gain and overall well-being
- Perform a comprehensive physical examination
- Answer your questions and discuss any concerns you may have
Newborn visits are also an opportunity for parents to ask questions and receive guidance. Whether you have questions about feeding, sleep, jaundice, umbilical cord care, or adjusting to life with a new baby, our team is here to help.
What screenings does newborn care include?
Shortly after birth, your baby will undergo routine newborn screening tests designed to identify certain medical conditions before symptoms develop. Early detection allows treatment to begin as soon as possible and can help prevent serious health complications.
Newborn screening typically includes a blood test obtained from a heel stick, a hearing screen, and screening for critical congenital heart disease. Most of these tests are completed before your baby leaves the hospital. If additional testing is needed, your pediatrician will discuss the next steps with you.
