Luke Engelman MD, FAAP
Working as a nurse aide during high school in his rural, hometown hospital is what first made Dr. Engelman interested in a medical career. However, it was his pediatric oncology rotation during medical school that solidified his choice to work with children.
“I learned that kids are so incredibly resilient and fun and I strive to make my appointments a combination of play and anticipatory guidance,” Dr. Engelman says.
Raised in western Oklahoma, Dr. Engelman earned both his Bachelor of Science and medical degrees from the University of Oklahoma, and is a big fan of the Sooners athletic teams. He moved to Kansas City in 2015 for his pediatric residency at Children’s Mercy Hospital, and joined Johnson County Pediatrics in September 2018.
“I strive to truly get to know my patients and their families, “he says. “As physicians we are able to take much better care of people if we understand where certain feelings and emotions are coming from, and if we know how a family will respond to different recommendations.“
Dr. Engelman and his wife Jordan have a daughter, Carter, born in May 2018, and a son, Eli, born in October 2020. In their free time the Engelman‘s enjoy staying active with various outdoor activities such as hiking and camping. They have a goal of visiting all seven continents and all the US national parks in their lifetimes.
Dr. Engelman sees patients at appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
